Assembler 2nd Shift
PGS Worldwide is seeking a Solder Rework Technician in Oldsmar, FL for a one-year contract-to-hire role supporting a leading aerospace & defense company.
The Solder Rework Technician will support high-mix, low-volume aerospace and defense electronics production by performing advanced SMT and through-hole soldering, rework, repair, inspection, and verification on printed circuit boards. This role requires strong hands-on experience with bottom-terminated devices, IPC standards, microscope work, X-ray inspection, and strict quality control in ESD-controlled production areas.
Required Skills
- Minimum 5 years of hands-on SMT and through-hole solder assembly experience in a high-mix, low-volume environment such as aerospace, defense, or similar manufacturing.
- Experience performing SMT and through-hole soldering on printed circuit boards.
- Experience reworking and repairing components, including bottom-terminated devices such as QFNs, BGAs, and LGAs.
- Experience using hot-air pencils, hot plates, reflow ovens, and specialty rework stations.
- Experience conducting X-ray inspection of reworked bottom-terminated components.
- Ability to evaluate solder joint integrity and document inspection findings.
- Experience with IPC-A-610 and IPC J-STD-001 standards.
- Proficiency using microscopes.
- Ability to perform visual inspection, AOI inspection, X-ray inspection, and board-level verification.
- Ability to perform functional testing to confirm conformance to specifications.
- Ability to read and follow work orders, engineering drawings, and IPC standards.
- Ability to maintain cleanroom and ESD-controlled work areas.
- Ability to monitor and record equipment parameters such as temperature and airflow.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Ability to read and write English.
- Ability to take and pass a required medical exam.
- Must be able to work 2nd shift.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with aerospace and defense electronics.
- Experience training junior assemblers.
- Experience supporting continuous improvement initiatives.
- Experience with solder process improvements, advanced PCB rework, BGA rework, QFN rework, LGA rework, X-ray defect analysis, AOI systems, ESD controls, cleanroom procedures, high-reliability electronics, and low-volume electronics manufacturing.
What Youll Do
- Perform high-mix SMT and through-hole soldering on printed circuit boards.
- Remove, replace, and rework electronic components, including QFNs, BGAs, LGAs, and other bottom-terminated devices.
- Use hot-air pencils, hot plates, reflow ovens, and specialty rework stations.
- Conduct X-ray inspection of reworked bottom-terminated components.
- Evaluate solder joint integrity and document inspection results.
- Perform board-level verification using visual inspection, AOI, X-ray, and functional testing.
- Follow work orders, engineering drawings, IPC standards, and production requirements.
- Maintain cleanroom and ESD-controlled work areas.
- Monitor and record equipment parameters.
- Support continuous improvement efforts and recommend process enhancements.
- Assist in training junior assemblers as needed.
