PGS Worldwide is seeking an SMT Assembler in Oldsmar, Florida for a one-year contract-to-hire role supporting a leading aerospace & defense company. This role supports printed circuit board assembly in a high-mix, high-volume manufacturing environment. The position focuses on operating pick-and-place equipment, performing in-process inspection, supporting rework and soldering activities, and ensuring products meet strict quality and reliability standards.

Required Skills

  • Minimum 2 years of hands-on SMT assembly experience in a high-mix, high-volume production environment
  • Experience operating automated pick-and-place equipment
  • Strong understanding of IPC-A-610 and IPC J-STD-001 standards
  • Ability to load and unload boards, feeders, and solder paste printers on automated pick-and-place machines
  • Ability to set up component trays, verify part numbers, and adjust machine parameters
  • Experience performing manual rework and hand soldering for components requiring special handling
  • Ability to conduct visual and automated inspections using AOI, SPI, microscopes, and other inspection methods
  • Ability to identify and document defects such as bridges, tombstoning, misplacements, solder shorts, and insufficient wetting
  • Experience troubleshooting equipment alarms, feeder jams, and placement accuracy issues
  • Knowledge of SMT component families including 0201 through 1206, QFN, BGA, CSP, and FCBGA
  • Experience with mixed technology boards including SMT and through-hole
  • Knowledge of lead-free and RoHS-compliant processes and cleaning methods
  • Ability to read and write English
  • Ability to stand for long periods, sustain moderate physical activity, and lift up to 25 lbs
  • Manual dexterity to handle fine-pitch components and small tools
  • Ability to pass a required medical exam

Preferred Skills

  • Technical or associate degree in electronics manufacturing or a related field

What Youll Do

  • Assemble printed circuit boards using surface mount technology
  • Load and unload boards, feeders, and solder paste printers on automated equipment
  • Set up machines and adjust placement speed, vision settings, and nozzle height
  • Perform manual rework and hand soldering as needed
  • Conduct visual and automated inspections to ensure assembly quality
  • Apply IPC standards throughout the assembly process
  • Perform routine cleaning, nozzle checks, and preventive maintenance on equipment
  • Troubleshoot machine issues and support efficient production flow
  • Maintain an organized work area and follow 6S principles

  • Monday through Thursday, 3:30 PM - 2:00 AM EST
