May 4th - 21st - (Mon -Thurs) 3rd Yr Apprentice School
June 1st - 18th - (Mon -Thurs) 4th Yr Apprentice School
Sept 14th - Oct 1st - (Mon -Thurs) 1st Yr Apprentice School
Oct 12 - 29th - (Mon -Thurs) 2nd Yr Apprentice School
1 week of preparation time usually needed before each 3 week school.
They will have more dates for 2027 closer to the end of 2026 or sooner.
1. Explain what the scope of the work/project is? Project Overview, deliverables (what is this person responsible for).
The role is primarily responsible for in-person delivery of existing transmission substation training curriculum. The resource will instruct multi week substation schools throughout the year and must bring sufficient depth of field experience to teach the content credibly. While the curriculum is largely already developed, the instructor may occasionally support minor revisions, updates, or enhancements to the material.
2. What does a typical day look like?
During active school weeks, the instructor delivers classroom-based instruction during 10-hour days. When classes are not in session, time may be spent reviewing curriculum, preparing materials, coordinating with subject matter experts, and occasionally visiting substations or training labs for hands-on instructional support.

Collaborative and team-oriented. The instructor works closely with another instructor, internal SMEs, and business partners to deliver effective training.
7. Can you elaborate on any potential risks or safety considerations associated with this role, particularly if the responsibilities extend beyond a standard desk or office environment?
Yes. The role includes:
Visits to substations and construction/training sites
Possible on-site hands-on training
Required PPE may include:

Steel or composite toe boots

9. What are the work hours/shift (standard, evening, full time/part time, OT required, on-call for 24/7 operation)?
Monday Thursday

Class typically runs 7:00 AM 4:30/5:00 PM

1. What are the top 3-5 skills and qualifications (technology/application/software, etc.) required?
Journeyman Substation Electrician experience (critical requirement)
Hands-on knowledge of substation equipment (breakers, relays, mechanical/electrical systems)
Instructional delivery / teaching capability
Strong verbal communication skills
Basic Microsoft Office skills (email, PowerPoint, basic spreadsheets)
2. What non-technical skills are necessary (i.e., such as communication, problem solving, team player)?

3. Ideal candidate background and how many years required?
Preferably journeyman-level substation electrician
Minimum 4 5 years of substation experience
Strong preference for seasoned field professionals
Retired or near-retirement individuals are considered ideal

Journeyman Substation Electrician certification (or equivalent documentation)

3. Will this position require travel? How often? Where? Is this reimbursable? How? Limited. Occasional visits to substations or training sites 3 4 times per year. Reimbursement details not specified.

Manages the planning, creation, delivery, and quality assurance of instructionally effective content within an established timeframe. Demonstrates and utilizes effective needs analysis, project management, course development, and evaluation skills. Support training staff in the delivery of Substation trainings to internal or external audiences and perform administrative tasks as it relates to any training projects. Able to utilize multimedia technology and authoring tools. Prepare reports on results from evaluation of training programs. Skill requirements include, teaching/training, performance measuring, multimedia, curriculum and course development, ability to work independently or on a team and MS Office experience.
