PGS Worldwide is seeking a Solder Assembler in Oldsmar, FL for a one-year contract-to-hire role supporting a leading aerospace & defense company.
The Solder Assembler will support precision electronics manufacturing by performing high-mix, low-volume SMT and through-hole soldering on complex printed circuit boards. This role requires strong hands-on soldering experience, advanced component rework ability, microscope work, and the ability to inspect hidden solder joints using X-ray inspection techniques.
Required Skills
- Strong soldering experience.
- Experience with SMT and through-hole soldering.
- Experience performing high-mix, low-volume assembly on complex printed circuit boards.
- Experience removing, repairing, and replacing electronic components.
- Experience working with bottom-terminated components such as QFNs, BGAs, and LGAs.
- Experience using hot-air pencils, hot plates, and other rework tools.
- Ability to perform precise reflow, pre-heat, and cooling cycles based on component thermal profiles.
- Ability to operate and maintain X-ray inspection equipment.
- Ability to evaluate solder joints on hidden pads and verify rework quality.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, work orders, and Bills of Material.
- Ability to verify correct component placement and orientation.
- Ability to perform in-process quality checks using visual inspection, AOI, and X-ray inspection.
- Ability to document inspection results according to quality system requirements.
- Ability to troubleshoot solder-related defects, including tombstoning, voids, and solder bridges.
- Ability to implement corrective actions for solder defects.
- Ability to maintain ESD-controlled work areas and follow safety and compliance procedures.
- Ability to work under a microscope for long periods while inspecting and working on PWBs.
- Ability to read and write English.
- Ability to take and pass a required medical exam.
Preferred Skills
- Solder certification.
- Experience with advanced PCB rework, BGA rework, QFN rework, LGA rework, X-ray inspection, AOI inspection, microscope inspection, SMT assembly, through-hole assembly, high-reliability electronics, aerospace electronics, defense electronics, ESD controls, defect analysis, and process improvement.
What Youll Do
- Perform SMT and through-hole soldering on complex printed circuit boards.
- Assemble high-mix, low-volume electronic products.
- Remove, replace, and repair bottom-terminated components such as QFNs, BGAs, and LGAs.
- Use hot-air pencils, hot plates, and advanced rework tools.
- Perform controlled reflow, pre-heat, and cooling cycles.
- Inspect solder joints using X-ray inspection equipment.
- Perform visual, AOI, and X-ray quality checks.
- Interpret engineering drawings, work orders, and Bills of Material.
- Verify component placement, orientation, and workmanship.
- Troubleshoot solder defects and support corrective actions.
- Maintain ESD-controlled work areas and follow safety procedures.
- Recommend tooling upgrades or process improvements when appropriate.
