PGS Worldwide is seeking a Solder Assembler in Oldsmar, Florida for a one-year contract-to-hire role supporting a leading aerospace & defense company. This onsite position supports precision electronics manufacturing in a high-mix, low-volume environment. The role requires advanced rework and soldering expertise across SMT and through-hole assemblies, with a strong focus on workmanship verification, defect resolution, and quality compliance.

Required Skills

  • Extensive experience with both SMT and through-hole soldering
  • Experience removing, repairing, and replacing bottom-terminated components such as QFNs, BGAs, and LGAs
  • Experience using advanced rework equipment including hot-air pencils, hot plates, and similar tools
  • Ability to perform precise reflow, pre-heat, and cooling cycles based on component-specific thermal profiles
  • Experience operating and maintaining X-ray inspection equipment
  • Ability to evaluate solder joints on hidden pads and verify rework quality
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, work orders, and bills of materials
  • Ability to perform in-process quality checks using visual inspection, AOI, and X-ray
  • Ability to troubleshoot solder-related defects including tombstoning, voids, and solder bridges
  • Ability to implement corrective actions related to solder defects
  • Ability to maintain ESD-controlled environments and follow safety and compliance procedures
  • Ability to work under a microscope for extended periods while inspecting and working on PWBs

What Youll Do

  • Perform high-mix, low-volume assembly of SMT and through-hole components on complex printed circuit boards
  • Remove, replace, and repair bottom-terminated components using advanced rework tools
  • Execute controlled thermal processes to meet component-specific requirements
  • Operate X-ray inspection equipment to verify solder quality and rework results
  • Interpret drawings, work orders, and BOMs to ensure correct component placement and orientation
  • Perform in-process quality checks and document results per quality system requirements
  • Troubleshoot solder defects and apply corrective actions
  • Support ESD, safety, and compliance requirements in the production environment
  • Contribute to continuous improvement through tooling and process optimization suggestions
