Senior Network Engineer supporting a classified program in Fort Meade, MD. Responsible for leading end-to-end network engineering efforts including design, implementation, maintenance, and upgrades across complex DoD/IC environments. This role serves as the technical lead on large-scale projects and requires hands-on expertise in advanced networking, performance optimization, and compliance within secure facilities.
Responsibilities- Lead network architecture, design, implementation, and lifecycle upgrades across LAN, CAN, WAN, voice, and video systems
- Analyze engineering documents and translate mission requirements into scalable network solutions
- Perform advanced telecommunications analysis for modernization of large-scale infrastructures
- Oversee LAN/CAN/WAN administration, conversions, cutovers, and network documentation
- Lead incident resolution and coordinate across teams for complex network issues
- Optimize system performance, reduce latency, and maximize throughput using monitoring tools
- Conduct packet/data capture and analysis using network analyzers, WAN test equipment, and simulators
- Design, configure, and deploy network devices and integrated systems at scale
- Implement solutions including VPNs, IPSec, GRE tunneling, firewalls, NAT, VoIP, load balancing, and traffic shaping
- Support circuit-switched network design and telecommunications modeling
- Develop algorithms for networking and telecommunications systems
- Ensure compliance with DoD/IC standards (STIGs, RMF, NIST 800-53) and maintain accreditation documentation
- Lead security reviews, A&A activities, and enforce regulatory requirements
- Lead large-scale installation projects and mentor junior engineers
- Active TS/SCI clearance with Full Scope Polygraph; CI investigation within last 5 years
- DoD 8570 IAT Level III certification (e.g., CISSP, CASP+, CCNP Security or equivalent)
- 10+ years of network engineering experience in DoD/IC classified environments
- Expertise in LAN/CAN/WAN design, architecture, and administration at scale
- Strong experience with VPNs, IPSec, GRE, firewalls, NAT, VoIP, and network security implementations
- Experience operating network analyzers, WAN test equipment, and simulators
- Proven leadership in large-scale network installation and integration efforts
- Experience with circuit-switched network design and ISO 9000 compliance integration
- Experience developing networking/telecommunications algorithms or models
- Bachelors or Masters degree in a related field, or equivalent experience with certifications (CCNA, CCNP, Juniper, or similar)
