osition Summary
The Facilities Assistant supports the Maintenance Lead in maintaining safe, efficient, and reliable operation of manufacturing equipment and building systems within a metal furniture manufacturing facility. This role focuses on preventative maintenance, routine equipment servicing, and general building repairs to minimize downtime and ensure a safe work environment.
Key Responsibilities
Preventative & Equipment Maintenance
Assist the Maintenance Lead with scheduled preventative maintenance on manufacturing machinery and equipment.
Perform routine inspections, lubrication, adjustments, and basic repairs on mechanical and electro-mechanical equipment.
Identify potential equipment issues early and report findings to reduce unplanned downtime.
Assist with equipment changeovers, installations, and relocation as needed.
Facilities & Building Maintenance
Perform general building maintenance, including minor carpentry, plumbing, electrical, painting, and structural repairs.
Maintain doors, docks, lighting, HVAC support components, and shop utilities.
Assist with snow removal, grounds maintenance, and seasonal facility needs.
Ensure work areas remain clean, organized, and compliant with safety standards.
Safety & Compliance
Follow OSHA, company safety policies, use proper PPE, and lockout/tagout procedures.
Assist in maintaining a safe shop environment by identifying hazards and supporting corrective actions.
Support & Documentation
Track completed maintenance tasks and assist with maintenance logs.
Communicate equipment issues, parts needs, and repair status to the Maintenance Lead.
Work closely with production teams to minimize disruption during repairs
Requirements
Qualifications & Experience
35 years of hands-on experience in facilities maintenance, manufacturing maintenance, or industrial maintenance.
Experience working in a metal manufacturing or industrial environment a plus.
Basic knowledge of mechanical systems, hand tools, power tools, and maintenance best practices.
Ability to follow simple schematics, manuals, and written instructions.

Willingness to learn and support various maintenance disciplines
Physical Requirements & Work Environment
Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 50 lbs.
Comfortable working in a manufacturing environment with noise, dust, and temperature variations.
May require climbing ladders, working in tight spaces, and occasional overtime or off-shift support.
Preferred (not required)
Trade school or vocational training
Forklift or lift certification
