Linux Engineer Information Technology

Reporting to the Director of Infrastructure, we seek a hands-on Linux (DevOps) Engineer to lead automation, configuration management, and infrastructure modernization efforts at The Rockefeller University. This is a technical, individual contributor role. You will collaborate with a small team and be expected to drive and implement DevOps best practices.
Responsibilities:Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Maintaining and advancing Ansible-based configuration management used to support the teams systems and roles used across multiple teams
- Improving GitLab CI/CD pipelines and supporting the migration to GitLab SaaS
- Managing Docker Swarm clusters and assisting in architecting a replacement.
- Implementing infrastructure automation and improving provisioning processes for physical, virtual, and cloud servers
- Monitoring system health and performance (CheckMK) and advocating for observability best practices
- Other duties and special projects, as needed
- Bachelors degree required
- Must have 2 plus years of demonstrated experience using Linux operating system, working knowledge of provisioning and containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes, Swarm), and experience managing CI/CD environments
- Ability to build and maintain code repositories with Git, required. E
- xperience with large-scale monitoring and reporting tools (e.g. Nagios, checkmk, ELK, Splunk, Grafana), required
- Familiarity with virtualization technologies and related tools, network principles, and protocols (e.g. VMware, Vagrant, Packer.io, TCP/IP, SSH, HTTP(S), DNS, DHCP, SNMP) necessary
- Experience building and installing open-source software with complex dependencies, strong shell scripting, and programming skills for systems administration purposes (two or more of BASH, Python or similar) required
- Excellent organizational skills, prioritize management, Problem-solving skills, and interpersonal skills, are required

The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on various factors, including but not limited to organizational budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The hiring range provided represents The Rockefeller University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
