At our Phoenix Reload facility, we transload steel and other building materials from rail, truck, and containers. We provide custom handling, inventory management and other services. We are a small but mighty division and backed by an organization that employs over 1300 people. Our growth is unprecedented and there are several opportunities for advancement within our organization.
We are looking for aLead Hand to join us and become part of the Arrow team in Surprise, Arizona.

Responsibilities:The supervisor/manager/foremaninstructs the Lead Handregardingthe daily plan.The Lead Hand then works alongside the crew, directs their daily work, trouble shoots issues,problemsolves and brings questions or concerns to the attention of the supervisor/manager/foreman.The Lead Hand is assigned responsibility for the quality and quantity of work carried out by the team to which the Lead Hand is assigned.
Major Responsibilities
- Work and report to the immediate supervisor to prioritize daily job requirements.
- Performs daily duties alongside crew.
- Informs crew of the daily plan.
- Report all incidents,problemsor concerns with regards to technical, safety,labor, materials,equipmentand process to the immediate supervisor.
- Maintain service quality.
- Continue to perform the work for which he/she washired,i.e.drivinga truck,operating machinery,forklift,repairandmaintenance,etc.
- Follow all workplace safety policies and compliance regulations,participateinidentifyinghazards.
- Comply withall rules and regulations,protocols,andestablishedmetrics.
- Ability to understand cross training on all functions atthe facility.
- May discuss with yard staff and Division Managementregardingrepairs and preventative maintenance schedules and timelines.
- Maybe responsible fortheaccurateandtimelydelivery ofpaperworkand work orders.
- Monitors the performance of yard, shop and/or divisional employees and discusses with thesupervisoras necessary.
- Provide internal and external Customer Service excellence.
- May be asked to travel to other terminals toassistif necessary.
- Suggest continuous improvement in working conditions, use of equipment, processetc.toincrease efficiency and quality of shop, department,truckingand/or work crew.
- Troubleshoot, adjust, or perform minor maintenance for any machinery that requires attention.
- Other duties as assigned by theimmediate supervisor.
- Demonstratesstrong communicationskills.
- Previousrelevant experiencerequired.
- Must be highly effective and proficient for therole they werehired,i.e.truckdriver,shop employee,yard employee,equipmentoperatoretc.
- Experience with routine maintenance operations.
- Highly flexible, with solid interpersonal skills that allow one to work effectively in a diverse working environment.
- Strong time management andproblem-solvingskills.
- Ability to work independently and complete daily activities according to workschedules.
- Ability to work outside in all weather conditions (snow, rain, sub-freezingtemps, heat,wind).
- Strong attention to detail.
- Able to deal with people tactfully, diplomatically, and professionally.
- First Aid skills and/or certificates are considered assets.
- Experience working with computers an asset
- Physically able to climb up and downladders/railcarssafely.
- Can carry at least 50lbs.and swing a 10lbs.sledgehammer.
- In good physical condition.
- Mechanical inclinationis anasset.
