Location: Tempe, AZ
We are seeking a Telecommunications Systems Engineer to support the design and implementation of complex telecommunications infrastructure for large-scale facilities. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to challenging projects while collaborating with architects, engineers, and multidisciplinary design teams to deliver coordinated telecommunications systems.
The Telecommunications Systems Engineer will help develop detailed design packages that support Outside Plant (OSP) infrastructure, inter- and intra-building backbone distribution systems, communications room layouts, rack elevations, wired and wireless device plans, and cable schedules. Designs will be produced using AutoCAD, SmartPlant, and Revit MEP, leveraging coordinated 3D BIM models and traditional 2D construction documentation.
All designs must comply with NEC (NFPA 70), TIA standards, BICSI practices, and applicable project specifications.
Key Responsibilities
Support and lead portions of telecommunications system design for complex projects.
Collaborate with architects and engineering teams to develop coordinated telecommunications infrastructure designs.
Develop structured cabling designs, backbone distribution systems, communications room layouts, and device plans.
Assist with the design of Outside Plant (OSP) telecommunications systems.
Prepare telecommunications construction drawings, specifications, and cable schedules.
Ensure designs meet TIA, BICSI, and NEC standards.
Assist with telecommunications system testing, start-up, and commissioning.
Participate in design reviews and coordination using Bluebeam and Navisworks.
Required Qualifications
Two-year technical degree or four-year non-technical degree.
5+ years of telecommunications design experience in the design and construction industry.
Knowledge of TIA standards, BICSI design practices, and NFPA 70 (NEC) requirements.
Experience leading or coordinating telecommunications design efforts.
Strong structured cabling design experience.
Proficiency with Bluebeam and Navisworks.
Strong communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's degree.
Professional Engineer (PE) license.
BICSI RCDD certification.
Experience with Revit and BIM design environments.
Telecommunications design experience in the semiconductor industry.
Experience with Distributed Antenna Systems (DAS) and Emergency Responder Radio systems.
Additional BICSI certifications such as OSP or RTPM.
