Location Description:

The Post Consumer Brands plant in Asheboro, NC, features some of the most modern cereal production technology in the industry and the facility has quadrupled in size since it opened in 2007. Asheboro's 200+ team members produce some of our newest and most innovative cereals, like Oreo Puff's cereal! While there is plenty to do right in Asheboro, the town is only a few hours from the Atlantic Ocean in one direction and the Blue Ridge Mountains in the other direction.

Responsibilities:

Under direct supervision, the Apprentice Maintenance Technician is responsible for repairs and maintenance. The Apprentice Maintenance Technician works with the assistance of a Maintenance Technician or Lead Maintenance Technician when performing technical and diagnostic repairs. The primary responsibility of the Apprentice Maintenance Technician is learning to perform mechanical, electrical, and electronic maintenance on plant/equipment, so that production down time is minimized and efficiency is maximized. Support, implement, and maintain food safety practices as required through the Safe Quality Foods program (SQF). The Apprentice Maintenance Technician will be responsible for completing job duties in a manner that supports all plant safety, food safety, quality and environmental practices.

JOB ACTIVITIES/DUTIES:

  • Responsible for learning to solve mechanical, electrical, and electronic problems of the plant facility and production equipment in a safe, timely, and cost effective manner.
  • Responsible for learning to resolve problems of plant and packaging/processing equipment such as wiring, circuits, fuses, switches, electrical installations, transformers, motors and AC/DC motor control circuits.
  • Responsible for learning to perform maintenance and installation of Allen Bradley programmable logic controllers and associated software and how to troubleshoot using PLC software.
  • Responsible for learning to fabricate replacement parts or equipment utilizing shop tools, lathe, mill, mig welding, tig welding, presses and shears.
  • Utilize a CMMS to write work orders, plan jobs, and maintain parts inventory/purchasing and/or requesting replacement parts.
  • Maintain clean work areas and develop action plans to correct problem areas.
  • Record data required for equipment repair, downtime or efficiency, or other pertinent data as required.
  • Plan ahead to maximize efficiency of Team and equipment.
  • Communicate pertinent information to other Team Members and shifts.
  • Coordinate shift activities related to maintenance.
  • Participate in all training activities of the Team and plant committees as required.
  • Maintain flexibility to attend meetings during non-scheduled times as required.
  • Perform a variety of audits as required.
  • Support, implement, and maintain food safety and quality practices as required through Safe Quality Foods program (SQF).
  • Complete job duties in a manner that supports all plant safety, food safety, quality and environmental practices.
  • Assist in other areas of the plant upon request.
Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or GED. Knowledge of food production machinery operation and maintenance is desired. State boilers, electrical and refrigeration licenses are a plus.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in plant and production equipment operation preferred.
  • Basic mechanical knowledge including the use of hand and power Experience working with bench tools, lathe, mill and welding skills are desired.
  • Ability to be certified to operate a forklift; and certified to work with a variety of welding equipment.
  • Basic math skills including weights and measurements.
  • Computer proficiency for basic functions including: internet, email, data entry, record keeping. Knowledge of electronics, electronic test equipment and multimeter use is desired.

  • Must be able to read, write and communicate in the English language; ability to read blueprints and electrical schematics

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to work 12 hour shifts and every other weekend on a regularly scheduled basis in which standing, kneeling, climbing and walking are 100% of on-the-job time.
  • Comfortable working in the following conditions: hot and/or humid environments, heights up to 30 ft, working on ladders, confined spaces and catwalks.
  • Manual dexterity for delicate electronic work. Frequently stoop, squat, twist, reach, climb stairs while performing job duties.
  • Ability to team-lift and carry 75-100 pound objects, repetitively lift and carry 20 and 50 pound objects.
  • Ability to distinguish between sounds or vibrations for equipment repair and colors for electronic wiring work.
  • Work in all plant areas and outside the plant. Exposure to extreme heat and cold, humidity, fumes, gases, odors and dust. Exposure to high noise levels. Work around moving
