Replaces E&C Engineer - I - (1428) - Additional skill set required - Seeking civil/structural background with a PE.
Explain what the scope of the work/project is? Project Overview, deliverables (what is this person responsible for). Plant Fleet based engineering role to support Xcel s energy supply projects group to help manage capital projects at the power plants across the region. This resource would be responsible for managing all emergent capital projects at the plant as well as supporting larger base and major capital projects. This resource would support reliability engineering in helping develop scopes and justifications for projects and putting those through Xcel s emergent capital request system/process and would be responsible for managing all the projects. This resource could be responsible for upwards of 20 small projects going on at one time in addition to supporting some of the larger base capital projects. True title is E&C Engineer; however, title is a bit misleading. Really looking for someone with an engineering degree/background, however, will mostly be a project manager.
what does a typical day look like?
This person will be expected to be onsite 3 days per week or 5 days a week during project execution phase. Working with operations and reliability engineering to learn about plant systems, how they operate. In addition to planning out future work to keep the plants reliable. Attending morning *POD meetings, collaborating with operations and reliability personnel throughout the day, overseeing contractors performing/executing on the projects in the field and would be responsible for all the administrative project paperwork, such as developing scopes of work, technical specifications, helping get quotes for equipment, bidding out if necessary and coordinating material deliveries and installation with the plant as well. POD meetings are the groups internal morning meetings to plan out critical items that need to be done that day.
What are the top 3-5 skills and qualifications required?
Ability to multi-task and juggle several tasks without sacrificing quality, takes initiative, teamwork, interpersonal/communication skills, experience with cradle to crave Project management experience. Prior experience working in manufacturing/plant environment like a power plant. Has taken the FE (fundamentals in engineering) exam or would like to (preferred not required). Would like to see previous experience managing contractors. Previous experience with project management and project plan development, charters, managing budgets, good with managing money, etc. Requires a bachelors in engineering, no specific discipline, as long as it s related to work performed at the plant (mechanical/electrical/civil). Willing to consider other engineering fields as well.
