Pay rate: $30.00 - $32.00/hr
Work schedule: 5 days onsite, 8:00 AM 5:00 PM (based on business needs)
Duration: 1 year contract
Roche Sequencing Solutions & Roche Molecular Lab are developing a revolutionary, nanopore-based single-molecule DNA sequencer dedicated to making clinical genetic testing easy, affordable, and accessible. The System Engineer will focus on improving the reliability and robustness of the sequencing and sample prep platforms. Operating as a key member of the troubleshooting team, this individual will leverage interdisciplinary technical expertise to perform failure analysis, execute root cause investigations, and support solution implementation in a fast-paced environment.
Job SpecificationsResponsibilities

Platform Expertise: Gain a comprehensive operational and functional understanding of the sequencing and sample preparation platforms to minimize system downtime.

Issue Resolution: Partner closely with engineering teams to resolve discovered platform issues and propose actionable solutions to mitigate common failure modes.

Lab & System Support: Support laboratory teams with multi-layered troubleshooting at the hardware, software, and biochemical assay levels.

Experimental Execution: Design, set up, and execute targeted experiments and testing protocols to validate overall platform functionality.

Cross-Functional Communication: Document and communicate root cause investigation findings and solution paths across system, device, instrument, and reagent teams.

Instrument Development: Assist with the design, troubleshooting, and continuous development of instrumentation components.
Who You Are / Must Have Skills

Technical Troubleshooting: Proven experience troubleshooting during the development or operations of complex platforms (such as microfluidics, liquid handlers, diagnostic systems, or Next Generation Sequencing systems).

Data & Analytics: Strong understanding of statistical methods with the ability to perform statistical data analysis using programs like JMP or R.

Core Competencies: Meticulous attention to detail, highly self-motivated, and possessing excellent written and electronic record-keeping skills.

Collaboration: Excellent oral and written communication skills to work effectively within multi-disciplinary teams and clearly articulate technical findings.

Environment: Willingness to work consistently in a hands-on laboratory setting.
Preferred Qualifications

Direct experience with failure analysis and/or corporate defect management systems.

Foundational understanding of sequencing methodologies.

Familiarity with computer programming languages, specifically Python.
Education & Experience

Education: B.S. degree in Bioengineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechatronics, or a closely related scientific/engineering discipline.

Experience: 1-2+ years of professional experience operating within an engineering support or development framework.
Term: 06/29/2026 to 06/25/2027 (Long-term contract assignment)
