Overview:
We are seeking a Field Technician to support our Chicago, IL office. This role focuses on construction services, including on-site oversight, design support for surveys, and data acquisition. The ideal candidate will bring hands-on field experience, strong technical aptitude, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform site surveys and assist engineers with various technical field activities
- Collect and document field data using appropriate equipment, devices, and tools
- Support design teams by compiling and delivering accurate technical data for project development
- Produce clear, complete, and organized documentation of field conditions and findings
- Verify installation and in-place elements on active construction projects
- Interface with clients, project owners, and contractors as needed
- Ensure compliance with company safety standards and site-specific safety policies
- Apply knowledge of standards, systems, document control, applicable codes, and internal procedures
- Travel regularly to project sites as required
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's degree in a science or related field preferred
- Minimum of 4 years of relevant field or construction experience
- General understanding of site investigations, inspections, and assessments
- Basic knowledge of engineering design, construction practices, and inspection processes
- Experience in construction or consulting environments preferred
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Strong teamwork skills and ability to collaborate across project teams
- Proven ability to build and maintain relationships with clients, agencies, contractors, and stakeholders
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills
- Excellent time management and organizational abilities
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, plans, and maps
- Valid driver's license required
Technical Skills:
- Familiarity with survey equipment and procedures (e.g., Total Station, GPS, Automatic Level, topographical surveys, level runs)
- Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
