Tool Design Engineer

PGS Worldwide is seeking a Tool Design Engineer in Palmdale, CA for a one year contract-to-hire role supporting a leading aerospace & defense company. This role designs industrial machinery and production/experimental toolingtools, dies, gauges, jigs, fixtures, and machine attachmentswhile leading process improvements across tool design and planning flow. You will use 3DX/CATIA to develop designs and create 2D technical drawings, and you will act as a liaison across design, manufacturing, engineering, and tooling procurement to manage quality, cost, and schedule considerations.

Required Skills

• Secret security clearance and ability to obtain SAP within 6 weeks of submission

• Recent experience with CATIA V5 or 3DX (minimum 1 year within the last 5 years)

• 7+ years of experience designing structures or tooling in CAD

• Minimum 1 year cumulative experience designing structural assembly/fabrication tools for aerospace vehicles (or similar)

• Minimum 1 year experience creating 2D technical design drawings/blueprints

• High proficiency with GD&T

• Ability to independently determine approaches and develop solutions to difficult problems

• Ability to act as liaison between designers, manufacturing, engineering, and tooling procurement regarding quality, cost, and schedule for tool manufacturing planning

• Ability to lead activities to improve processes within tool design and planning product flow

Preferred Skills

• Tool fabrication experience

• Experience with structures assembly tooling, fixtures, drill jigs, and lift/move tools

• Experience authoring tool usage instructions or assembly work instructions

• Manufacturing engineering-type production floor support experience

• Aircraft assembly experience

• First article build experience

• B.S. degree

What Youll Do

• Design industrial machinery and tooling for production or experimental use (tools, dies, gauges, jigs, fixtures, machine attachments)

• Develop CAD designs using 3DX/CATIA and produce 2D technical drawings/blueprints with GD&T

• Provide technical solutions to a wide range of difficult tooling and structural design problems

• Coordinate tooling manufacturing planning by partnering across design, manufacturing, engineering, and tooling procurement on quality, cost, and schedule

• Lead process improvement activities within the tooling design and planning product flow
