Overview:

COLUMBIA IntegratedPowerSystems (IPS) Engineering has an opening for an engineer to supportthedesign, test,and systemintegrationof the COLUMBIA Class Main Propulsion Motor Drives(MPDs).This roleprovidesthe opportunity to oversee the development and integration of critical components into the revolutionary electric propulsion system for the COLUMBIA Class.The D489 MPD team responsibilities include MPD design efforts, qualification testing, and analysisof complexsystems within thecomponentincludingpower electronics, electromagnetics, control systems,etc. Additionally, the team has a strong focus on driving the supplier deliverables, test procedures, test reports, and design to meet all applicable requirements without deviation whileidentifyingdeficiencies in the specification to apply lessons learned to future electric propulsion plant submarine topologies. Engineers in the group willassistinMPD construction support and shipboard integration at Electric Boat manufacturing facilitiesand test supportat theElectric Boat shipyard in Groton, CT, and theIPS Compatibility Test Facility (CTF) in Philadelphia, PA.

Responsibilities

The engineer hired for this position will be expected to:

  • Coordinate supplier MPD design and redesign efforts (Hardware and Software)
  • Verify control system design compliance with specifications and system requirements
  • Support testing and troubleshooting for MPDs at theElectric Boat shipyard in Groton, CT, theIPS CTF, andsupplier facility
  • Support lifecycle management activities
  • Interface with technical and management personnel at NAVSEA, NNL,NSWC,andsuppliers
  • Interface with Operations and Trades at Electric Boat manufacturing facilities
  • Enforcetechnical requirements onsuppliers
Qualifications:

Required

  • BS or MSelectricalengineeringdegreewith technical background (Electrical, Systems,Mechatronics, etc.)
  • 0-3yearsof relevant engineering experience
  • Ability to obtain andmaintaina security clearance
  • Experience using Microsoftproducts
  • Ability to occasionally travel to remote facilities within the United States(Philadelphia, PA; Milwaukee, WI;Washington, D.C.,etc.)

Preferred

  • Masters degree in electrical engineering
  • Experience working withgovernment customers
  • Ability to understand macro levelobjectivesand priorities while driving detailed level actions
  • Multi-disciplinary systems engineering experience in complexsystems basedproducts
  • Experience withMilitaryStandards
  • Experience invariable speed motor drives,control systems, power electronics
  • Experience using MATLAB and/or Simulink
  • Experience withmodel basedsystems engineering
