Senior Traffic Engineer / Project Manager

About the Opportunity
We are partnering with a growing engineering organization that is expanding its transportation and traffic engineering capabilities throughout the Southeast. This is an exciting opportunity for a senior-level Traffic Engineer / Project Manager to play a key role in helping grow and shape a developing traffic engineering practice.

This role is ideal for a motivated "seller-doer professional who enjoys a combination of technical engineering, client engagement, project leadership, and strategic growth initiatives. The selected candidate will have the opportunity to influence the direction of the practice, support business development efforts, mentor future team members, and work on impactful transportation infrastructure projects across public and private sectors.

What You'll Be Doing

Traffic Engineering & Design
  • Prepare traffic signal plans in accordance with applicable state and local standards
  • Develop signing and pavement marking plans
  • Support ITS and transportation systems design initiatives
  • Participate in design coordination meetings and client discussions
  • Assist with transportation corridor and intersection improvement projects
Traffic Studies & Analysis
  • Conduct traffic impact studies and transportation analyses
  • Support corridor studies, intersection evaluations, and traffic calming initiatives
  • Analyze crash data and provide mitigation recommendations
  • Assist with development-related transportation planning activities
  • Participate in public meetings, municipal coordination, and stakeholder presentations as needed
Project Management & Leadership
  • Manage transportation and traffic engineering projects from kickoff through delivery
  • Coordinate internally with engineering teams and external stakeholders
  • Support proposal development and client relationship management
  • Assist in growing and mentoring a transportation engineering team
  • Contribute to strategic growth and expansion initiatives within the practice
Preferred Technical Experience
Experience with one or more of the following is highly preferred:

  • Traffic Operations
  • Transportation Planning
  • ITS / Intelligent Transportation Systems
  • Traffic Impact Studies
  • Corridor & Intersection Studies
  • Signal Timing & Optimization
Preferred Software Experience
  • Synchro / SimTraffic
  • SIDRA
  • HCS
  • MicroStation
  • AutoCAD Civil 3D
  • Microsoft Office Suite
What We're Looking For
  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil, Transportation, or Traffic Engineering
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required
  • 7+ years of traffic or transportation engineering experience
  • Strong project management and client communication skills
  • Experience working with municipal, DOT, or public-sector transportation projects
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced consulting environment
  • Business development or client relationship experience is highly valued
