LER TechForce is looking for an AMI Smart Meter Analyst.

Position Overview
AMI Smart MeterAnalyst supporting large-scale Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) operations within a multimillion meter utility environment. This role is responsible for monitoring AMI system performance, troubleshooting communication and data issues, optimizing read performance, and supporting meter data integrity across head-end, MDMS, and billing systems. The position works cross-functionally with operations, field services, IT, vendors, and grid teams to ensure reliable AMI operations and continuous smart grid performance improvement.
This is a contract role supporting a California-based utility with a strong likelihood of extension based on performance and program needs.
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead day-to-day AMI operations monitoring, issue identification, and troubleshooting across large meter populations
  • Analyze and optimize AMI read performance, network health, and system reliability
  • Support RF Mesh, RFLAN, and cellular communication networks used for smart metering
  • Monitor and support Meter Data Management System (MDMS) operations, including data validation, exception handling, and billing data quality
  • Support over-the-air (OTA) updates, firmware management, and meter configuration changes
  • Perform AMI and billing data validation, including analysis of interval, register, and event data
  • Utilize SQL and analytical tools to investigate data flow issues across AMI head-end, MDMS, and downstream billing systems
Required Qualifications
  • Experience in AMI, smart metering, or utility metering operations
  • Experience supporting large-scale AMI deployments and operational environments
  • Strong understanding of AMI system, including head-end systems, MDMS, and billing systems
  • Hands-on experience with AMI communications technologies, including RF Mesh, RFLAN, and cellular networks
  • Experience supporting firmware management, OTA updates, and meter configuration management
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot complex system and data issues across multiple platforms
Preferred Experience
  • Familiarity with Itron AMI platforms
  • Background in utility operations and large-scale AMI operational support
  • SQL skills with experience validating AMI and billing data flows
  • Experience working in a multi-vendor AMI environment
  • Strong collaboration skills with the ability to work across operations, IT, vendors, and field teams
Employment Details
  • Employment Type: Contract (12 months, likely to extend)
  • Work Location: Hybrid Los Angeles county(2 days per week onsite, 3 remote)
  • Compensation Range: $50-90/hour
