Process Engineer
Position Purpose:
The Process Engineer is the technical authority and process design leader for Veolia's most complex water and wastewater infrastructure projects, including critical water treatment upgrades, pump stations, and collection system modifications. This high-impact role is crucial for ensuring the technical integrity, regulatory compliance, and optimal performance of all treatment processes throughout the project lifecycle. Success hinges on advanced knowledge of engineering principles and water quality standards, as well as the ability to effectively challenge and integrate designs while collaborating with internal cross-functional teams, engineering consultants, contractors, and environmental regulators.
Primary Duties/Responsibilities:
- Technical Authority, Process Validation, and Design Oversight:
- Define, validate, and challenge technical process requirements and specifications, ensuring the selection of the most efficient process design for the project.
- Provide cost-effective functional design solutions for technical issues and pursue the most suitable technical solution to obtain the maximum output of the project - Conceptualize and generate control system functional descriptions and Process & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs).
- Formulate, document, and verify process performance guarantees and ensure compliance with Veolia's operational and water quality goals.
- Execute rigorous review and validation of all design deliverables, technical specifications, and engineering standards for accuracy and alignment.
- Review and validate technical proposals and verify RFP compliance, integrating technical criteria into the RFP process and providing expert comments during design optimization.
- Conduct comprehensive field analytical measurements, process performance assessments, and system testing (piloting), and support process startup and commissioning.
- Provide essential technical expertise on complex engineering and operational issues, and actively contribute to the development of engineering design and delivery standards.
- Regulatory Interface and Permitting Strategy:
- Support the interface with environmental regulators (NJDEP), coordinating alignment on treatment targets and securing key permit application milestones.
- Support the development and submission of environmental permit applications, ensuring all documentation supports the project schedule.
- Address regulatory feedback.
Work Environment:
- This is a full-time, mission-critical, onsite position (5 days per week) located at the Haworth Water Treatment Plant.
- The role requires active participation in an office/field setting at the Haworth WTP, with periodic travel for site visits to other Veolia locations.
