The Assistant Planner supports planning and development activities by assisting with research, data analysis, project coordination, and documentation. This role requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
Planning Support
Assist in preparing planning reports, studies, and documentation
Support land use, zoning, and development review processes
Conduct research on planning policies, regulations, and projects
Data Analysis & Reporting
Collect, analyze, and interpret data related to planning projects
Maintain databases, spreadsheets, and tracking systems
Prepare summaries, charts, and reports
Project Coordination
Assist in coordinating planning projects and timelines
Work with internal teams, consultants, and stakeholders
Track project progress and ensure deadlines are met
Public & Stakeholder Support
Assist in responding to public inquiries and requests
Support community outreach and engagement efforts
Help prepare materials for meetings and presentations
Documentation & Compliance
Maintain accurate project records and documentation
Ensure compliance with local regulations and procedures
Support preparation of permits and application materials
Must-Have Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Urban Planning, Geography, Public Administration, or related field
13 years of planning or administrative experience
Basic understanding of zoning, land use, or planning principles
Strong Microsoft Office skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
Strong analytical and organizational skills
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with GIS tools (ArcGIS or similar)
Experience working in municipal or government environments
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
