- Pay Rate: $55.00 $60.00 / Hour (USD)
- Shift / Schedule: Full-time (40 hrs/week). Typical schedule: 8-hour days, starting around 7:00 AM (flexible to 8:00 8:30 AM).
- Travel Requirements: 10% of the time; travel to nearby power plants within a 30 45 minute radius; mileage reimbursable.

This role is a Quality Control Engineer responsible for implementing the client's quality program across generation (power plant) projects. The resource will support project execution by ensuring proper installation, startup, and commissioning of equipment to prevent rework and warranty issues. Responsibilities include participating in project reviews, inspections, quality plan development, and resolving installation or contractor quality issues.
This is a Quality Control Engineer position responsible for implementing the client's Quality Assurance / Quality Control program across generating plants (Coal, Gas, Renewables) within the MN region. The role ensures that project construction meets established quality standards, safety requirements, code and environmental regulations, and customer expectations. The engineer is responsible for monitoring, inspecting, and improving processes to ensure specifications and standards are met and projects are successful.
Key Responsibilities- Designing and implementing inspection and testing procedures for materials and onsite services.
- Monitoring project construction to identify defects, deviations, or non-conformities and implementing corrective actions.
- Collaborating with operations and maintenance teams, reliability engineers, and contractors to improve quality outcomes.
- Developing and maintaining quality management systems and conducting internal or external audits.
- Reviewing and developing Quality Control plans used during project sourcing, planning, and execution.
- Training employees on quality control procedures and best practices.
- Coordinating or performing shop visits for critical inspections and hold points / factory acceptance testing.
- Monitoring quality of products and controlling the efficiency of processes.
- Investigating root causes of failures to maintain quality and recommend improvements.
- Conducting project reviews, reviewing project plans and schedules, updating QA programs, analyzing quality reports, and supporting development of project-specific quality plans (office-based activities).
- Conducting site visits to power plants, inspections, installation walkdowns, contractor coordination, shop visits, and tracking issues/resolutions across projects (field-based activities).
- Engineering degree (Mechanical or Electrical preferred; Civil/Structural acceptable)
- Quality control / quality assurance experience or certifications
- Experience in power generation or industrial environments
- Experience with inspection/testing procedures and identifying construction defects
- Microsoft Office proficiency
- Self-motivated and able to manage priorities across many concurrent projects (~hundreds annually)
- Strong communication skills

- Organization and prioritization across multiple projects
- Certified Quality Engineer (CQE)
- Lean Six Sigma
- Quality auditor certifications
- Drafting experience
- Welding inspection (CWI)
- Manufacturing or industrial QA background
- Background with utility, power generation, or heavy industrial employers
- Engineering QA/QC experience required
- Background in power plants, utilities, or industrial environments
- 3 7 years of experience preferred, though open to more experienced candidates
- ABET Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (Mechanical or Electrical preferred; Civil/Structural acceptable)
- Certified Quality Auditor (preferred)
- Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) (preferred)
- ISO 9001 Audits knowledge/certification (preferred)
- Lean Six Sigma Principles certification (preferred)
- Field-based, high-risk role due to travel to power plants
- PPE required: hard hats and safety glasses (provided by client); steel-toe boots required (candidate-provided)
- Onsite at Minneapolis, MN primary office location with frequent travel to nearby plants within a 30 45 minute radius
- Highly collaborative but self-driven environment; candidates must be self-motivated, organized, and able to manage priorities across many concurrent projects
