Overview:

UnityPoint Health is seeking aDocument Processing Specialistto join our team! This role is responsible for the preparation, scanning, and verification ofmedical record documents for integrationintothe electronic patient record.The Document Processing Specialist ensures medical records are processed in accordance with standardized HIM system wide guidelines. In addition, this position is responsible for communicating all issues that impact quality or timelyintegrationof thedocuments into the patients electronic record.

Hours: Monday-Friday 8:00am-4:30pm

Location: Onsite - Dubuque, IA

Responsibilities:

Information Management:

  • Accurately preparepaper medical records for scanningfollowingstandardized HIM system wideprepguidelines.
  • Scanspaper medical recordsintotheelectronic health recordusing a scanningdevice.
  • AccuratelyIndexes and verifiesmedical recordimagesinto theelectronic health recordfollowing standardized HIM system wide document type guidelines.
  • Responsible for the verificationbatches ofscanned medical record images are released intotheappropriatequality reviewqueueor committed into the patients electronic medical record.
  • Monitors and processes images from network file sweep folders.
  • Meetquality andproductivity standards.
  • Upon request assistin the training of new hires by utilizing operational knowledge ofprepping, scanning, and indexingprocesses.
  • Responsible forcommunication andreporting any system or workflow issuesto appropriate leadership or team members.
  • Upon request, performsquality control and processing of reports.
  • Retrievespaper documents from defined patient care locations.

Customer Service:

  • Promptly answers office phone calls or assists withphone coverage.
  • Frequently monitors incoming department faxes, as necessary.
  • Responds to and fulfills continuation of carerequests, as necessary.
Qualifications:

Education:

  • Required - High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Preferred - Medical terminologyCompletion of a Health Information Management program

Experience:

  • Required - Previous work history in health information services/medical records departmentor office experience.
  • Preferred - One to three years of experience with an electronic health record or hospital/medical setting.
