Construction Engineer II

We are seeking a Construction Engineer II to support transportation and infrastructure construction projects within a fast-paced engineering environment. This role is ideal for a civil engineering professional with experience in construction inspection, field documentation, quantity tracking, and infrastructure project execution.
The Construction Engineer II will work closely with Project Managers and senior engineering staff to support roadway, transportation, and civil infrastructure projects from construction through completion. The ideal candidate will bring strong technical documentation skills, field construction knowledge, and the ability to work collaboratively with contractors, inspectors, and project teams.
Key ResponsibilitiesConstruction Engineering & Field Oversight- Review and interpret contract drawings, specifications, and construction documents
- Monitor and document construction activities to ensure compliance with project plans and specifications
- Identify and report non-compliant work or field issues
- Measure and calculate quantities of completed project work
- Assist with construction inspection activities across transportation and civil infrastructure projects
- Support project scheduling, cost tracking, and estimating efforts
- Prepare daily field reports and technical documentation
- Maintain accurate project records, construction logs, and quantity tracking reports
- Gather project data and support engineering evaluations and field decisions
- Coordinate with contractors, project managers, and engineering teams throughout project execution
- Work alongside senior engineers and project leadership on project delivery
- Provide guidance and quality review support to junior staff when needed
- Support client relationships and participate in project coordination efforts
- Contribute to maintaining project schedules, safety standards, and quality expectations
- Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering or related engineering discipline
- 3+ years of experience within construction engineering, civil engineering, or transportation infrastructure projects
- Experience reading and interpreting construction plans, specifications, and contract documents
- Knowledge of CPM scheduling and construction estimating principles
- Understanding of construction engineering practices, procedures, and field inspection processes
- Experience with MicroStation, AutoCAD, and/or Civil 3D
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint)
- Ability to work both in the field and office environments throughout all seasons
- Strong communication, documentation, and problem-solving skills
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or progression toward licensure
- Familiarity with material properties including soils, aggregates, concrete, and asphalt/bituminous materials
- Transportation, roadway, or infrastructure construction project experience
