Senior Project Engineer
Job Summary: As the Senior Project Engineer, you will be responsible for managing/supporting execution, from start to finish, of a broad range of Industrial Manufacturing Capital Projects. You will develop various capital project documentation including scope documents, engineering calculations and designs, specifications, drawings, cost estimates, schedules, project justifications, technical reviews and training documents for our manufacturing facilities in North America. In addition, you will work within a cross-functional, global engineering team to achieve corporate, division, and departmental objectives in a collaborative environment. As the Senior Project Engineer, you will also provide direction and mentoring to lower-level engineers. Ideally this Project Engineer would be located in Scottsboro, AL or Milan, OH but would consider someone based in our Littleton, CO Technical Center.

- Roughly how many projects is this person responsible for in a given year: Typically, 5-10 depending on $ value. Usually hits at about $3-10M/yr.
- How many facilities will they be working in: The Roofing Division has 16 plants, and 4 other Project Engineers in this group and they split up the plants. This role will start on capital projects in Macon, GA, Scottsboro, AL, Rockdale, IL Milan, OH and Jacksonville, FL ...
- Do the facilities run 24/7? 24/5 (around the clock, weekdays only) etc.: Most of the plants are 24/7 but do flex to 24/5 based on business needs.
- Can you give me some example projects this person would be working on? Production Line Upgrade, Laminator replacement, Carbon Black Silo Replacement, etc.
- What are the growth opportunities within this role? Principal Project Engineers, Engineering Managers, etc.
- Will the person be required to be in a facility 5 days a week or would they be flexible to work from home, when project requirements allow? We are looking for someone to be local to one of our plants - Scottsboro, AL or Milan, OH preferred or they can be based in Littleton, CO Technical Center. We want to have a collaborative team approach and support.
- Is Travel Required? The travel is slated 30-50%, however if this person located at a plant, it would be on the less side. The travel can fluctuate depending on the projects they are supporting. Typically leaving Monday return Thursday. During startup/installation/commissioning of a project may require a longer stay need someone available for the needs of the project.
- Develop project scopes, specifications, schedules, and investment grade cost estimates for multi-discipline industrial manufacturing capital projects worldwide with value up to $10M.
- Provide project management and oversight for all aspects and phases for multiple project assignments concurrently and driving projects to completion.
- Perform and/or review detailed engineering in one or more disciplines and coordinate comments and resolve design issues with engineering firms and contractors.
- Design and specify safe equipment and processes, ensure ergonomics are considered in all areas of design, and that potential safety and health hazards are identified and eliminated during project execution. Ensure that all safety policies and procedures are followed, driving a zero-incident project environment
- Design and specify environmentally compliant equipment and processes, ensure that all permit requirements are considered and addressed in the design, and that potential environmental issues are identified and addressed during project execution.
- Mentor lower-level engineers.
- Bachelor's degree in engineering is must.
- 10 or more years of engineering experience in an industrial or manufacturing industry.
- 5 years of project management (managing projects up to $10M).
- Ability to travel up to 50% (domestic and international).
- Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and MS Project.
- Ability to work in a manufacturing facility (may be exposed to environmental conditions of cold, heat, high noise levels, moving mechanical parts, heights, dust/mist/gas/fumes, extensive walking or climbing, etc.)
- Ability to lift, carry, push or pull up to and including 25 pounds.
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, preferably mechanical, electrical, chemical or materials engineering.
- Experience in fiberglass, glass, or roofing manufacturing industries.
- PMP Certification.
- SAP experience.
- Experience writing, reviewing, and negotiating technical specifications and contracts.
- Experience with PHA, HazOp design reviews.
- AutoCAD experience.
- Experience with continuous process improvement (Lean) in an industrial/manufacturing environment.
- Interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills, problem solving skills, negotiating skills, and process troubleshooting skills.
- High level of drive and initiative to complete assigned tasks and investigate and seek out improvement opportunities.
- Ability to provide complex and innovative solutions to project and process engineering problems.
- Ability to identify good scope interfaces and be aware of risk management principles to mitigate risk.
