Summary
The position is located at the Ute Mountain Ute Health Center, Towaoc, Colorado. The position reports to the Director of Nursing and/or Clinical Director.
Area of Consideration: Special area of consideration limited to Local Commuting Area - Management determines in advance of the announcement that there is likely to be an adequate number of qualified applicants in the local commuting area. Responsibilities
Coordinates the application process for medical staff and allied professional staff membership and privileges.
Initiates and processes applications for medical staff membership and clinical privileges; initiates background research on all applicants.
Initiates procedures for reappointment of physicians and allied health professionals to the medical staff.
Maintains knowledge in new regulations, laws, and accreditation standards that impact the medical staff credentialing and privileging operation as they are developed and released.
Answers phone calls and directs calls appropriately to staff members.
Receives patients in the outpatient clinic; monitors the flow of the clinic patients; arranges for clinic appointments; responds to general patient inquiries; stocks and maintains supplies; assists Director of Nursing in management of the clinic; and operates various office automation equipment.
Maintains all medical staff credentials files in conformance with the Indian Health Service Privacy Act System of Records. Safeguards the confidentiality of all medical staff membership credentialing, and privileging information, including verbal, electronic and print communications.

This is a designated position covered by Public Law 101-630, requiring contact or control over Indian children. Upon tentative selection, selectee will be requested to complete, sign, and submit the Addendum to OF-306, Child Care & Indian Child Care Worker Position form. Due to this requirement, the agency must ensure that persons hired for these positions have not been found guilty of or pleaded nolo contendere or guilty to certain crimes.
Measles and Rubella immunization required for selectees born after 1957. Seasonal Influenza immunization is required for civilian health care facility staff working in Indian Health Service health care facilities.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
For positions requiring positive education requirements, or if you are using education to meet all or part of the qualification requirements, you MUST submit a copy of your transcripts.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks:
GS-05: One (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-04 grade level that equipped you with the knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of this position. Examples include: Performing administrative support functions using automated data systems and a variety of software packages to accomplish a wide range of duties in coordinating medical staff information and privileging for the medical facility; initiates and processes applications for medical staff membership and clinical privileges; initiates background research on all applicants; uses computer software programs to manage medical staff credentialing and privileging processes. Observes and enforces privacy and confidentiality regulations and laws in a health care setting.

Four (4) years of education above the high school level.
OR
A combination of education and experience that when combined fully meet the minimum qualifications for this position. Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirements. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify an applicant for GS-05 grade level.
GS-06: One (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-05 grade level that equipped you with the knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of this position. Examples include: Interpreting and applying provider credentialing and privileging procedures and regulations; processing documents related to medical credentialing and privileging activities; reviewing records for completeness and to obtain data to verify privileging qualifications/education; using computer database and software to enter, manipulate, retrieve and report on medical credentialing and privileging activities; compiling, abstracting and analyzing credentialing data; and providing medical credentialing and privileging guidance to staff as necessary. Observes and enforces privacy and confidentiality regulations and laws in a health care setting.
GS-07: One (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-06 grade level that equipped you with the knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of this position. Examples include: Independently being responsible for the effective, accurate, and timely management of healthcare professional applications for credentialing and privileging determinations in accordance with federal, state, and department procedures; monitors and follows up on status of applications; assists with background investigations; validates discrepancies; and maintain effective relationships with providers; compiles and maintains a variety of reports and files; administers regulatory compliance and quality assurance for all medical and professional staff. Observes and enforces privacy and confidentiality regulations and laws in a health care setting.
Proficiency Requirement: In addition to meeting experience and/or education requirements, applicants for this position must show possession of Office Automation skills and must have typing proficiency of 40 words per minute.
You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement. Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).

Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. IHS may offer newly-appointed Federal employees credit for their directly related previous non-federal experience or active duty uniformed military service. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave is earned.
Relocation expenses are not authorized and will not be paid.
Government housing is not available.
This position has promotion potential to the GS-07 grade level. Promotion to the next grade level is at management's discretion and is based on your demonstrated ability to perform the higher level duties, the continuing need for the higher level duties, and 'Regulatory/Administrative' approval.
