Summary

Activities are directed toward coordination of the nutrition services with other program services to achieve the goal of elevating the physical status of the American Indian/Alaskan Native to an optimum state through adequate nutrition. The primary focus of the program is the American Indian/Alaskan Native population within the Fort Yuma Service Unit and various official and unofficial agencies and groups servicing the same population. This position reports to the Health Promotion Coordinator.

Responsibilities

- Develops long-range plans and objectives concerning nutrition and dietetic services that are needed by the ambulatory patients and their families as well as the outlying communities served by the Fort Yuma Service Unit.
- Prepares nutritional educational plans for supporting nutritional requirements.
- Asses nutritional habits, food, food purchasing practices and resources for purchasing food availability to client/communities and plans appropriate nutrition therapy for a variety of disease states and for the prevention of disease.
- Assists with development, implementation and updating policies and procedures for ambulatory nutrition services, in cooperation with other members of the health care team.
- Reviews, selects, or develops suitable educational and counseling materials on normal and Therapeutic nutrition for use by professional and paraprofessional staff providing services to patients and community members.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

For positions requiring positive education requirements, or if you are using education to meet all or part of the qualification requirements, you MUST submit a copy of your transcripts or an itemized list of college courses which includes equivalent information from the transcript (course title, semester/quarter hours, and grade/degree earned) in your resume.

Individual Occupational Requirements BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): Applicant must meet one of the following requirements for all grade levels: - Degree: Bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree in the fields of dietetics, food, nutrition, food service management, institution management, or related science. The educational program must have been accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND), or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. For dietitian positions, the curriculum must have been in accordance with the qualifying requirements established by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND) (formerly American Dietetic Association (ADA) prior to January 1, 2012) in effect at the time of graduation. - Completion of a coordinated undergraduate program, internship, or other clinical component approved by AND (formerly ADA) for dietitians or nutritionists. - Professional registration as a Registered Dietitian (RD) or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist(RDN).

NOTE: Employees currently assigned to positions in this occupational series as of September 2017 will be considered to have met the basic requirements for the position occupied.

In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: GS-9: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Evaluate nutritional assessments; review and interpret treatment data; develop nutritional care plan; provide nutritional education to individuals, families, and community groups. **OR;

Substituting Education for Experience:** Two (2) years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree OR master's OR equivalent graduate degree.

GS-11: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Develop nutritional care plans; provide consulting services to patients; assess nutritional needs related to several types of diabetes; interview techniques and patient care management. OR;

Substituting Education for Experience: Three (3) years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a P.D. degree OR Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree.

Education and experience may be combined for which both education and experience are acceptable. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify an applicant.

Licensure Requirement: Must possess and maintain current registration with the Commission on Dietetic Registration in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.

You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
