The Senior R & D Scientist or Engineer will lead the ideation, development, and execution of Blue Buffalo Innovation projects. The role will require working closely with the business team and supply chain as well as leverage strong consumer empathy. This position will require strong technical skills, critical problem-solving skill, and the ability to challenge assumptions and think differentially.
A successful candidate will be able to make internal and external connections to leverage the GMI human food pipelines, portfolio, and technologies for Blue Buffalo innovation. The candidate should also be successful at developing great partnerships with cross functional partners, have superior project management skills, the ability to influence the business, and have strong formulation and process development skills.

Key Accountabilities
The Senior Scientist supporting Blue Buffalo will lead multiple complex innovation projects from where to play through launch.
- Lead innovation projects by prioritizing work and coaching others
- Develop sound technical plans, collaborate with peers to strengthen approach, and build a pipeline of activities to support business priorities.
- Partner with internal and external partners
- Support the external supply chain (ESC) plants in trouble shooting as well as improving their process
- Identify innovation opportunities for Blue Buffalo by working globally across our Innovation, Technology & Quality teams to 'Pet-ize' human food
- Partner with global teams to identify new opportunities and solve technical challenges
- Build technical expertise in new areas and share knowledge across the organization
- Identify opportunities by challenging formulation and processing assumptions
- Communicate effectively with the business team
- Navigate the General Mills and Blue Buffalo matrix to efficiently vet ideas and complete initial feasibility assessments
- Execute commercialization of projects efficiently and with excellence
- Partner with cross functional teams to identify innovation opportunities
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Food Science or related field
- 4+ years of development and project leadership experience
- Product formulation experience and ability to scale up formula from bench to plant
- Demonstrated ability to develop and refine processes for scale-up
- Experience leading projects and working with a diverse cross functional team
- Comfort working directly with the business team and influencing pipeline and strategy
- Agility to adapt quickly to changes in project scope
- Displayed ability to manage multiple projects
- Demonstrated ability to partner closely with and coach others to complete projects
- Ability to challenge assumptions and develop robust technical plans to test hypotheses
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
Preferred Qualifications
- 6+ years of development and project leadership experience
- Pet food formulation experience
- Experience leading innovation projects from ideation to execution
- Demonstrated ability to scale products working closely with ESC partners
- Ability to collaborate and build partnerships with internal and external partners
