Trying to motivate yourself at work can be a tough task. Especially when it’s Monday morning and you’re tired after an awesome weekend.

No matter how much you love your job, we’ve all been in this situation at least once in our career. Keeping your motivation high and your focus on point is critical to your productivity and quality of work. Not to mention employers are always on the look-out for consistently motivated staff to financially reward!

So, if you’re struggling for motivation, why not try these following tips?

Organize Your To-do List

Having a plan to follow each day is a great way to motivate yourself. Not only will this fill you with a sense of achievement when you get to the end of the day and see how much you got done; you’ll also be able to manage your time more efficiently and be able to pick up extra tasks here and there.

Plus, it only needs to take 15 minutes of your time in the morning to do. A key trait that employers look for in their employees is organization. So you’ll certainly stand out if you stay on top of your workload from the get go.

Working through your list, you can tick each task off as and when you complete it. Seeing just how much work you’ve got through is an excellent motivator; while having a clear list of what you’ve still got to do can be the driving encouragement you need to help your productivity.

Set Yourself Daily and Weekly Goals

By setting yourself targets to achieve both daily and weekly, you’ll definitely motivate yourself at work. This is because you’ll always have something to work towards. These don’t have to be formal targets (like the ones you discuss in your annual review), but more personal aims tailored to your progression.

This can be anything from completing a task that you’ve been putting off for the last few days, to learning a new skill or piece of software. Instead of the types of targets you’d have in a job in sales, for example, these can be personal to you; like talking with your colleagues every day. This’ll help to increase both your motivation and confidence.

Surround Yourself with Positive Influences

There’s nothing worse than being surrounded by people who constantly moan about how good their weekend was and how they don’t want to be at work. Especially when you’re struggling for motivation yourself. This kind of atmosphere will only de-motivate you more.

Instead, try to surround yourself with positive influences. People who are passionate about what they do and are happy to be at work. Sure, we can’t all feel motivated all the time, but colleagues should be there to pick one another up.

Plus, having positive people around you gives you the opportunity to bounce ideas off one another, have stimulating conversations about your work, and even ask for help when you’re beginning to lapse.

Change Your Mindset

As hard as it may be, you need to convince yourself you want to work. You joined this company for a reason and rekindling this love is very important for your motivation.

Perhaps you enjoy the company’s culture and vibe, or you find the work you do invigorating. Reminding yourself why you love your job and then focussing on this can be extremely motivating. Plus, it should help to erase any doubts you have in your mind.

A good way to get your blood pumping is by watching motivational videos, listening to some influential podcasts, or reading a few inspiring quotes before your shift starts. This might not work for everyone; but it may be something that gets you ready for the working day.

Reward Yourself

Is there any better motivation than working towards a prize for your efforts? Rewarding yourself for being productive ensures you have something to actively work towards. As a result, you’re likely to be more productive and feel far more motivated.

This could be anything from rewarding yourself with a takeout at the end of the week; or even a shopping trip where you can indulge yourself a little.

Want to Motivate Yourself at Work?

While tricky, motivating yourself to get through your to-do list and stay productive isn’t impossible. Keeping your motivation levels high can open a lot of avenues for you; including getting yourself a pay rise and developing your career in your current role.

As outlined above, there are plenty of different ways to motivate yourself at work. Some prefer to reward themselves and set targets, while others prefer the old-fashioned technique of giving themselves a pep-talk and being inspired by others. Everyone is different, and it comes down to what works for you.

If you’ve tried all the techniques and can’t find a way of motivating yourself at work, maybe it’s time for something new. Resume-Library has thousands of job vacancies you can search through if you’re considering a career change!
